First of all, it has it's own weather patterns. Wind come seemingly out of nowhere, it is always a different temperature than it is in the outside world. Personal space has no meaning anymore once you descend the stairs, you get closer to strangers than you will ever be in any other situation in your life. If you have never been on a crowded subway, you have no idea what I mean.
When you are on the subway during rush hour you are literally so close together that you can't help but be leaning up against the people next to you. When the subway moves you all move together, like one large organism. Also, when it is packed like that, you truly hate everyone else who is on the train with you. Everything it stops, you are praying that everyone will get off, you hate each and every one of them. On one of these occasions, I happened to be pressed up against someone with dredlocks, and I was having to touch them with my bare arm, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. Up until that moment I have kind of liked it when people had dredlocks. I don't know why, but it seemed original and kindof cool to me. But from that moment on, I will always hate dreads, they absolutely and utterly disgust me now.
Now even though all of these rules about personal etiquette do not apply on the subway, there are some rules that absolutely apply. The most basic is to not be loud. People who talk real loud ALWAYS get a look, as do people who play their music real loud. But, this morning I witnessed one of the most blatant breach of etiquette I have seen in a long time. A guy was going through his cell phone rings and playing them for his girlfriend. I think everyone on the train gave him a dirty look, and there was one guy who really looked like he was going to punch the guy in the face, I actually started chuckling a little bit I was so shocked that he was doing it.
So ends my subway rant...............it is a great form of cheap transportation, but right now I am just thanking God that I won't be riding it to work for the rest of my life.

What a morning.....

Good gracious.......So I went to get on the subway this morning, waiting on the HOT platform for about 5 minutes(felt like 30) and then they announce that my train is not running today.........Great. So I check the bus routes, but I don't have exact change for the bus, and plus I know it is going to be PACKED because everyone who would be riding the subway will be on that bus. SO, I decide to start walking down Broadway toward my work to look for a cab. My subway stop is at 110 and Broadway and my work is at 53 and Broadway so it's not like I can walk the whole way. So I start walking and quickly begin to realize that there are NO cabs because everyone is looking for other means of transportation because the train isn't working. I walk about 25 blocks before I find a cab, and the only reason I got it was because someone happened to be getting out right where I was walking and I hopped in. Oh did I mention there is a heat advisory today, and the heat index is already above 90 and it is incredibly humid?? Oh and I also stepped in a huge wad of gum. So, I am in my cab, sweating profusely, and I tell my bowtie wearing driver, "53rd and Broadway". "Could you speak a little louder? I have trouble hearing...." "5-3 AND BROADWAY!!!" So, I am on my way....and about 10 blocks down the road when a lady walks up to the window to ask the driver if he would pick up an extra passenger because the subway is broken and all of the drivers are picking up extras. He tells her to ask me, and I wave her in. So now I am worrying because I only have 20 dollar bills, and I don't know the etiquette for splitting the cab fare. SO we are sitting in traffic and I am worrying about that for about 20 minutes. And we finally make it to my office and the lady says she will pay for the cab. What a nice way to end a HORRIBLE morning. I thanked her many times and got out into the heat and went up to my office where I am now. Moral to the story........if someone asks you if she can share a cab, do it, she may pay for the whole thing.

So, I used to have a blog where I would post my random musings on life, but I stopped posting on it a long time ago, and for some reason, it is unviewable (is that a world?) now. I was looking at some of my old posts yesterday, and decided to post some of my favorites on here for those who have never seen them as I think some are pretty funny. So, here they are......

-Why is there no washer-dryer combo out there? It sounds like a pretty simple concept right, after the clothes are done washing, spin 'em around real fast and pump some hot air in there. Am I missing something.........probably, but it seems like it could be done. I bet Bill Gates has one........jerk.

-Is there anything grosser than the dried up crusties underneath the cap in the milk jug. I mean, if one of these falls in my cereal, that is it, it all goes in the trash.

-I think that the Cruise control is one of the best inventions ever. I am drivin down the highway, one hand on the wheel, the other clutching a delicious breakfast sandwich from McDonalds, shoes off, feet confortably off of the pedals, and I am thinkin, life is good.

-Have you ever been driving along and you totally forget how you got to the place that you just arrived at. Like, you could have run three stoplights, driven down a one way raod the wrong way and ran over four cats and you would have no idea. That always freaks me out.

-I have the amazing ability to tell what resauraunt a fountain drink comes from. I know, it is hard to believe, but, I can totally tell if a coke is from McDonalds or Qdoba, or anywhere else. Is this a figment of my imagination, probably, but, there it is, for what it's worth.

-Is it a problem that in my life the thing that I get most excited about on a regular basis is food?

-Explain this guy to me. Whenever it rains, there are always a few people out walking around with no umbrella, no raincoat.....nothing. I can understand that sometimes people forget, but here is what amazes me......they are always dry!!!!! How does this happen, I am wetter than them and I have an umbrella, I just don't understand it.

So, there they are, some of my random musings on life..........not that it matters because I don't think anyone reads this anyways. Oh well, I am bored and could think of nothing better to do.

So, I was going to start posting a blog at Myspace, but I figured I would move it over here and link to it in my Facebook and IM profiles and maybe more people would read it...........

Going to movies just isn't as fun when you are by yourself......nevertheless; I have gone to see Pirates of the Caribbean and Superman in the past couple of weeks, all by my lonesome. Superman was well…….good. Not great, but I enjoyed it, especially since I got to see it in Imax 3-D. Oh man, I wish there was an Imax screen in Kentucky that showed regular movies and was big! There is one in Louisville at Stoneybrook, but it is just basically a regular sized screen. This one that I saw Superman at was HUGE. I really want to see Lord of the Rings on a screen this big, my friend Andy saw it in London, and I have been jealous of him ever since! Pirates was definitely a great flick, it got a lot of bad reviews, but I really enjoyed it. There was some unexpected stuff in there that made me really excited for the next one to come out (in a year).

I am still doing well up here in NYC, but I am getting more and anxious to get back to KY. Being so far away from everyone is not fun. It is especially tough being this far from Katie, I am not a big phone talker, but considering that that is our only means of communication, I kind of had to overcome that problem. We are doing fine though, and I have no doubt that we will make it through the summer. My time up here is already more than halfway over, which is crazy!! I have definitely gotten some good experience up here, I will be able to put a lot of good stuff on my resume, which was my reason for coming really, so that is good!

I have been checking out a lot of new music up here in my (ample) free time. Check out, Cary Brothers, Alexi Murdoch, Ari Hest, My Morning Jacket (their new album is called Z), and Nick Drake!!! All quality stuff!

I will leave you with this poem which I heard on a tour I did of Greenwich Village and then read on a friend’s Facebook profile, it is absolutely beautiful! I hope everyone is doing well and I can’t wait to get back to KY and see you all!

I carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart) I am never without it(anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate, my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)
Thought I would post a blog about it, I always try to start posting these things, and I never can keep up with it very well, I am a tad bit forgetfull. Anyways........I am enjoying what I am doing up here, there are days when I don't have much to do(like today) but for the most part I keep busy. I went to a real cool thing in the Park on Monday called Broadway Under the Stars. It was a whole bunch of big broadway stars singing songs from musicals that this one guy had directed(Evita, West Side Story, Cabaret, etc.) It was a good time, but going alone to that kind of stuff definitely takes some of the fun away. There are so many people around everywhere, and so much to do here, but it can still definitely get lonely. Plus, I am a bit of a homebody, so most nights I just hang in my apartment. I have gotten to see a couple of Broadway shows (Mamma Mia, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and I will probably go see RENT while I am here too. But the one show taht I REALLY want to see is Wicked. If I dont' get to see that one I will definitely be a bit dissappointed. Oo, oooo, I am going to see Superman in IMax 3-D tomorrow and I am really pumped about that, haha, I know I am a nerd, I just can't help it.
So, all in all, things are going good, but I am 99.9999% sure that I will be back in good old KY by early to mid-August. Some people are built to be New Yorkers, and I don't think I am one of them!
Anyways, I don't know if anybody is going to read this, but if you do, feel free to comment so I know that you read it. Oh, and by the way, I saw a woman on the side of the street with a sign saything that she was homeless and asking for money but she was talking on a cell phone!!!! Needless to say, there weren't many people dropping quarters in her hat.

Bored

I am bored............so here I am. I am trying to get myself to write on here more so that it becomes something that I can do more and more, because right now I kinda feel like I need a purpse, but need to be able to just let the thoughts flow. After all, this blog is titled the thoughts of a scrub is it not? Alright, I have been thinking about this lately, and if the pieces fall into place, I think the Cats could go all the way this year.....in basketball of course. Alright...hear me out. If we can get Morris back, he is going to have something to prove, Rondo could very well become the best guard in the country, you've got one of the best shotblockers in the country, if not the best, and then a whole lot of other real solid players around those folks. Tubby can bring in basically every player but 2 or 3 comfortably off of the bench, and he is such a master of manipulating lineups, he will always find a rotation that will work well. Anyways, I never predict a National Championship, but I am doing it this year, banner number 8 will be up in Rupp, I can feel it, well............at least a Final Four...
Well, I was gonna write about some actual serious stuff tonight, but I have officially rambles too long and now I am tired and have to go to sleep, because I am an old man. So goodnight all, or nobody, I still don't konw if anyone reads this. Hey, if you read this, post a comment......I am curious to see who is on here........anyone............hello............
-Paul

I stink.....

Man, I never post on here, does anyone read this at all..............? Probably not, but here I am. Ok, I mant to start posting more, so this is the first fo what will hopefully become a weekly thing at least! Things that are going on with me.......the movies at the student center are going well, it is a bit more work than I originally anticipated, but it is fun, and it will look great on the old resume so that's good news. I went back to Louisville this weekend for the first time all semester and went to the St. James Art Fair for the frist time ever. It was great, kinda hot, but there is so much cool stuff down there. It is all a bit pricey, but real cool. Oh, I am going camping next weekend for Fall Break, and it is gonna be great. The weather is gonna be perfect, no rain, mid 60's during the day, 40's at night. If anyone would like to go, you may be welcome to, it depends on who you are, hahaha. Just kidding. Alright well, I don't fell like writing too much now, I have been putting off writing a serious post because I really have never done it before, but I have really been feeling like writing about some stuff that has been on my mind. So, that may be coming in the next couple of days. I'm outta here for now, oh by the way, if you have never listened to Amos Lee, Do. He is amazing, check it out. Peace, Paul

A Film for KY

Hey everyone(or no one, I don't know if anybody really reads this....) what's goin on? I just got home from showing my first film at the Student Center, yeah I get paid to sit around and watch movies, how great is that?? Anyways, it was Old School and about 25 people showed up, which was really reat. I was afraid that there were gonna be like 5. Now I am sitting here watching Family Guy. I am having a night at home since I woke up at 715 this morning and I am exhausted. So, the reason I wanted to post this was to tell everyone about Elizabethtown. I figured most everyone who reads this is living in Kentucky, and this movie is really gonna be great for those of us who do. Check out the trailer and the "Inernet First Look" here. In the trailer Kirsten Dunst's character talks about the correct way to say Louisville, and in the internet first look you see My Morning Jacket(a local Lousivlle band that has made it pretty big) and an Ear-X-Tacy bumper sticker. So yeah, I think that there is gonna be a lot of stuff in there that only those from KY wil catch, which will be cool. Plus, I think that the movie itself could be really great as well. So yeah, check out that stuff and tell me what you think. I am off to bed, and it is only 1115, I am an old man. Peace, Paul

The Long Awaited.....

That's right folks it's time for the Harry potter post. I finished reading the book the third day after it came out, and then I re-read it, yeah I know, I am a bit of a loser. But, the first time I read it I read So fast that I felt like I needed to read again to really get what happened. By the way, if you haven't read it yet and you plan to DON'T read further. I kept myself spoiler free for this one and it made it SO much better! So, first of all, poor Dumbledore..........as much as I hated to see him go, it was his time and I think that he was definitely ready. I had a feeling that he was going to die in this book and I was right, it is a very common theme in fantasy(Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, Gandalf in Lord of the Rings) that the hero has to lose those that he looks to for guidance and finish the task on his own. But, I also don't believe we have heard the last from Dumbledore, his portrait in the headmaster's office will, I think, play some sort of role in the next book. I also think that if Harry has no way to get in touch with that portrait, Dumbledore will have left him something to start him on his way. (I am playing poker online while I write this, and I just won 40 bucks on 1 hand, WOW) Anyways, back to Harry. Another thing about this book, I don't think Snape is bad. I know I know, but just consider for a bit. When he got to the top of the tower, the Death Eaters were either going to make Draco kill Dumbledore, which Dumbledore definitely didn't want. Or if Drcao wouldn't do it, they were going to kill him and the kill Dumbledore anyways. Plus I think that Dumbledore was going to die whether or not he got off that tower. So, also if Draco didn't kill Dumbledore, and Snape didn't kill him, Snape would die(because of the unbreakable vow) Draco would die(the Death Eaters would kill him) and Dumbledore would die. So, Snape killing Dumbledore was the only option in the situation. Dumbledore communicated this to Snape, when he said "please Severus". Dumbledore was not beggin for his life, like Harry thought he was, Dumbledore has never been afriad of death, and has made that perfectly clear. So then, Snape took Draco and left, that way Draco lives, and can perhaps turn from the Dark Side(haha, I am a Star Wars nerd too) and Snape can keep up his double agent status. Also if you notice, Snape gets very upset when Harry calls him a coward on the way out. I think that this is because he thinks that he just did an incredibly brave thing by killing someone that he respected above everyone else. So, there you go, my Harry Potter discussion, please feel free to comment, there are other things that I enjoyed about the book, but these were the big things that happened. I would tlak about some other stuf, but this post is WAY too ong already. I wonder if anyone even reads this anymore considering I haven't posted fo months. Well, I kinda had a hard few weeks there, Sara and I broke up, and I started neglecting this blog, then I basically forgot about it. Well, now I am back. Things are much better, I just moved into a new apartment. A one bedroom right off of Harrodsburg road......if you haven't checked it out, stop on by. Today is my last day of the easiest class I have ever taken in my life. I have a presentation this evening, and then we are going out to Pazzo's with my teacher, he is a pretty cool guy. Listen to this though, he got divorced like 8 or 9 years ago from his wife of 18 years after she cheated on him..............with their thearpist...........who they were going to to help thier marriage.........and the therapist was the wife's supervisor........and he was one of their best freinds. That's pretty rough, so if you are ever thinking that you are having the worst day ever......it could be worse. Alright, well, I don't have too much else to say, next post will be my Harry Potter post :) Hopefully I will be back around much more! Take care folks, Paul

J-O-B

That's right folks, I finally got a job, now hopefully I will have more to talk about on here than jsut movies! Although, I did see Batman two days ago, mroe on that later. Anyways, the job actually has a lot to do with movies. I am going to be coordinating and promoting a new film series at the student center here at the good old University of Kentucky. We will be showing films at 10 pm on Thursday Friday and Saturday. Random aside.........wednesday is spelled completly different than anyone says it. We either need to start spelling it like we say it, or we need to say it like we spell it, join with me and stop pronouncing it Wendsday. Anyways, back to what I was writing about......so, if you all have any ideas of a film that would be good to show, and that students would come to see, I would love to hear them, just post them here under comments. Now, Batman Begins........it is importnant to note that this in niether a prequel nor a sequel to the first Batman films, they are starting over with the Batman series and trying to stay closer to the comic book. The result was freaking amazing, I would say that the film was pretty close to flawless. It is dark and gritty, but there is still a bit of witty humor interspersed throughout and it makes for an incredibly enjoyable experience. If you haven't seen it, get off your butt and go! Alright, that's it for now, I have to go watch the U.S. Open, oh I love Majors weekends! Now, when I first heard about this I was incredibly sceptical, thinking that it was going to be a bunch of famous people taking over the roles and basically butchering it. The first person that I heard they were trying to get for Roger was Justin Timberlake, and my expectations were incredibly low. Then, I found out that they were casting most of the original Broadway cast in it, and that pumped me up a whole lot. Well, I just saw the trailer online and it looks amazing, check it out here. It really looks like it is going to be amazing. Anyways, jsut thought I would pass this great news along to you, this blog is quickly developing into a spot for me to talk about movie and books that are coming out that I am excited about, sorry about that. But, I jsut write about what I really like, and unfortunatly, I am a huge dork......so, enjoy the trailer, I know I did.

Peace, Paul

Sorry.......

Man, it's been almost a month, and I have yet to post here again. That's terrible and I apologize, I know how you are all waiting each day with batted breath hoping beyond hope that there will be a new post on my blog. Well, maybe not, but still sorry for not posting. I guess the reason I haven't been updating you all on stuff is because well.....I hve absolutly nothing going on....I am looking for a job, and an apartment, both unsuccessfully so far, and that is about it. Classes start next week, and I know this is insane but am kinda looking forward to it. I mean, I am bored out of my mind! One exciting thing though......Star Wars is out and it is amazing. If you ahven't seen it, and you are even remotly a Star Wars fan, drop whatever you are doing and get to the theater. It is eally unlike any Star Wars film taht has come out, because it is pretty sad. THere are some scenes in it that are tough to watch. Also, it is the first time that we have ever seen a Jedi turn to the dark side, and, while it is interesting, and while you know it is inevitably going to happen, you still find yourself on the edge of your seat hopign that he doesn't go down that road. Oh, and there are some incredible light saber battles!!!! Ok, enough dorkiness for one post! I hope things are well with everyone, and hopefully I will soon have a job and be doing something that is worthy of you reading.

Peace, Paul

I Am a Dork

This post is for all of my Harry Potter fan buddies out there. Whoever hasn't seen the trailer for the Goblet of Fire needs to check it out here. Man, I am real pumped about this movie. I know it doesn't come out until November, and that there are a lot of great movies coming out between now and then, but whenever the first trailer for a movie comes out I start getting real excited about it. Also, the trailer for the first Chronicles of Narnia Film has come out, watch it here. It takes some searching around on that site, but you can find it. That trailer is playing before Star Wars Episode III. As if I wasn't excited enough about taht one, this jsut pumps me up even more! I know that my true dorkiness is coming out on this blog but I just can't help it. Ok, so, if you don't already know, this summer we have Star Wars, the new Batman, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(directed by Tim Burton) all coming out, what an awesome summer that is going to be. And.....to top it all of.....the new Harry Potter book comes out in July(I think, it might be June). Man I am pumped about this summer. And by the way, if you haven't read the Harry Potter books, shame on you, and if you haven't read the Chronicles of Narnia, well, you are just plain crazy. Go check out both of those series because they are absolutly amazing, and they are all real quick reads. Ok, I am done being nerdy for the time being, just needed somewhere to vent my excitement. Oh, also....I was at Joseph Beth Booksellers the other day, and they are having a Harry Potter Release Party......who's comin with me...................come on Christi.....I know you want to. Oh, one more thing, thanks to the folks who have commented. I love getting comments because I like to know who has stopped by and checked out the site. So, if you stop by, leave a message to say howdy! Whoever stumbled across this by searching for something random on google.....get out weirdo, and stop reading the personal thoughts of someone you don't even know!!! :) So, I am restarting my blog. It will be a bit different than the first one I think, first of all, I am out of witty observations about the world, so don't ask for anymore! Just kidding, in no way have I ever considered myself witty. This blog will hopefully be filled with my thoughts, both serious and amusing this time. Oh, it will also be filled with typos, so, just get used to it. Also, I will be putting up some links to stuff over there -----------------------------------------> so, enjoy those. They will be hopefully interesting and funny things that I find while perusing the internet, which I am known to do for many hours at a time. Well, right now I would prefer to ramble on and complain about finals (yeah, my last one is on Friday this year! That's a shame right?) but I am busy studying for them, and must go to Kroger to buy notecards, I ran out for the second time! And, that might not seem like much until you consider that I have been cutting them into fourths just so I wouldn't run out! What a pain. Anyways.....................I digress. So, enjoy my thoughts, and if they bore you well, nobody is forcing you to read them so just leave already! :) Oh, also, I will hopefully be putting a link to a song, movie, book, or just something interesting at the end of each post, that I think you should check out. This is an idea that I got from Zach Braff"s blog(the guy who directed and starred in Garden State.) Peace, Paul

Star Wars Episode III.....that's right, I am pumped about this!

New Blog

Hey guys, I am starting up a new blog.
